Why is Allah called He? Why does He sit instead of the name of Allah Ta’ala. Allah’s pronoun in English is He? Let’s find out.
We know that the Holy Quran was revealed in Arabic. Now there are many differences between Arabic and English grammar. In English, 3 pronouns He, She and It are used. But there is no gender pronoun in Arabic grammar. Here hua and hia mean masculine and feminine respectively. In the Holy Qur’an we often find God’s description. For example, in the first line of Surah Ikhlas. The concept of masculine or feminine in Arabic is slightly different. In Arabic, masculine is the default. It is used for men or cleebs and feminine for women or cleebs. But to be feminine some conditions have to be fulfilled. Words that do not meet the conditions become masculine. For example, books that do not meet the conditions are masculine and libraries that meet the conditions are feminine.
There is no other word in English that refers to the Lord in the third person. And naturally He is considered superior to She. That is why ‘Allah’ or the Lord of religions without any gender distinction is addressed as He. In this case He always begins with a capital letter, regardless of the part of the sentence in which it is used.
